Science outreach

I am a member of the group Informatique Sans Ordinateurs (Computer Science Unplugged) at IREM Clermont-Ferrand, which aims at popularizing computer science with activities adressed at the general public (mainly schools).

My science outreach activities include the following ones.

  • Together with Antoine Dailly, inspired by discussions with Pascal Lafourcade, we have created an activity for the general public (tested with middle-schoolers and highschoolers) on several graph problems (maximum independent set, maximum clique, minimum vertex cover) and how to use one to solve another, thus introducing the concept of reductions between algorithmic problems. This activity was performed at the Fête de la Science at ISIMA since 2024 and at the Lycée Lafayette in Brioude in April 2024.
  • Together with Laurent Beaudou and Lucas Lorieau, since 2024, every academic year we co-animate a group of high-schoolers in the framework of Maths en Jeans at the Lycée Montdory in Thiers. In 2024, the theme was inspired by the activity Chasse à la bête adapted to the goal of watering plants in a garden. In 2025, the theme is inspired by the Cops and Robber pursuit-evasion game on graphs, adapted to the goal of catching the lost cat of the school director.
