STAR project (1999 to 2005):
The STAR project (Distributed Tele-Assistant System) was carried out in collaboration with the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital. The aim of this object was to develop a remote monitoring platform prototype to continuously monitor people suffering from cardiac arrhythmias. The operating principle of this platform is simple. A sensor (see img. 1) realizes the acquisition and analysis of ECG signals in real time. If a problem occurs in the patient's home, the sensor sends an alarm message over a Bluetooth or IEEE 802.11b wireless network to a laptop, which then transfers it to a specialist via a dedicated wired network. If a problem occurs elsewhere the alarm message is sent to the specialist directly via a GSM phone.
Our prototype has been tested and validated on several patients at Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital (see img. 2).
